has appeared as soloist and presented masterclasses throughout the United States of America, in South America, in the Middle East, Europe and Asia. A respected artist, he has been featured at Tanglewood (USA), the Salzburg Festival, the Carmel Bach Festival, the Saint-Malo Festival, and in numerous contemporary music festivals. Performances as soloist with Jean-Pierre Rampal, and with members of the North Carolina Symphony, the New Orleans Philharmonic, the Baton Rouge Symphony, the Boston Symphony, the San Francisco Symphony, and the Seoul (Korea) Philharmonic attest to his demand as a major personality in the flute world.
His recordings on Aurophon, Centaur, Albany and Crystal labels feature premiere releases of the 19th-century repertoire for flute and piano. A CD released on the Christophorus label is devoted to baroque trio sonatas for flute, oboe, guitar, and cello. In addition, he has recorded for PBS, WGBH-TV (Boston), California Public Television, Bavarian Radio, Radio Bremen, Salzburg Rundfunk, Paulinas COMP (Brasil), and Radio-Television Hong-Kong. His editions of 19th-century flute music are published by International Music Company and Southern Music Company.
As a Fulbright Professor, Brooks de Wetter-Smith has given masterclasses in contemporary techniques at the Musikhochschule in Munich as well as conservatories in Cologne, Bremen, and Lisbon. He holds a master degree from the New England Conservatory of Music (USA), a doctorate from the Eastman School of Music (Rochester/USA), and is currently James Gordon Hanes Distinguished Professor Emeritus at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (USA).
